Talking about concerns, stressors, and challenges can be particularly difficult for men given the societal standards and expectations we face related to masculinities. These challenges faced by men can result in life dissatisfaction, which can provoke agitation, anger, a sense of meaningless, lack of direction, relationship struggles, and anxiety/depression. Dr. Matt Schumacher’s approach to working with men and masculinities is to create a place for honoring men’s experiences while also exploring barriers that may be preventing them from creating more meaning in their lives. In addition to acquiring better coping tools to manage your overall wellness, Matt hopes to support you in finding ways to improve the areas of your life that have been challenging.
Topics may include intimate relationships, man-to-man friendships, societal expectations related to gender norms, personality characteristics, daily pressures, physical health, and how identities and experiences affect our mental health. Matt aims to help men build better relationships, increase emotion-focused skills and confidence, and feel more holistically empowered within their masculinity.
Whether you are a man having difficulty in your relationship with yourself, partner, sexual identity, interpersonal relationships, and/or work, Matt looks forward to collaboratively discussing the changes you’re wanting to make.
